Gabor Pinter, PhD

I am a Senior Economist at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel. My policy and academic work focuses on the interaction between financial markets and the macroeconomy, monetary policy transmission, and the functioning of sovereign and corporate bond markets. I also study the growth models of open economies, including the Visegrád Four.

Previously, I spent over a decade at the Bank of England (2011–2023), most recently as a Senior Adviser. Earlier in my career, I held visiting research and policy roles at the European Parliament, International Monetary Fund (IMF), HM Treasury, and the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB). I hold a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2013). My academic research has appeared in journals including the American Economic Review and the Journal of Finance.

(Outside of economics, I enjoy playing the piano and hold the title of International Chess Master).
